Cryogeyser

We were with a stunning date last time we ventured our way to Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right. We talked and made out at the bar for so long that we missed the entire show. That flame burned hot but flickered out so last night we didn’t miss a second of Cryogeyser and MX Lonely. We fell in love again, this time with their sounds, here’s what went down:

MX Lonely opened with their most recent single Beauty Lasts For Never. Then Connection, Papercuts, and Too Many Pwr Chords, the last of which they extended the end with a slow, headbanging, bloodcurdling scream of a breakdown. Their frontperson stood ten feet tall atop the stage PA, orchestrating the whole affair. Our absolute favorite of the night was a new one, Big Hips For A Boy, for reasons you’ll just have to find out upon release. They finished with Rest In Salt, another new song, and Swim.

Cryogeyser’s frontwoman hopped on stage dancing and giggling in front of a sold-out crowd. She spoke comfortably in between songs about graduating from the New School, family expectations, and past traumatic experiences at Baby’s. Specifically an ex-friend showing up to a gig, a story she concluded with “Underneath every mean-ass bitch is a hurt baby girl”. We laughed and turned around to see who else thought the moral was funny, and only seemed to notice a bunch of scowling women. Anyway, her voice was a powerful, crystal clear siren that filled every corner of the room. Their deep, dreamy music had the crowd transfixed and the front row of superfans singing along to most every song.

The crowd was not on their A-game last night. We don’t want to hate so we’ll just say that a number of people were struggling to function in public. Whatever, chalk it up to the Sunday Scaries. It didn’t stop us from picking up a copy of MX Lonely’s SPIT on CD and becoming superfans of Cryogeyser ourselves. Tender age in bloom, indeed. Connect with MX Lonely and Cryogeyser if you missed the gig, they’ll be touring together for another week! Rock on, Rrrat Pack.
