I’m just a screenage dirtbag baby

It hasn’t been long since we clawed our way into Brooklyns The Broadway, but last night we were back for Euchre, Ladybeetle, Screenager, and Babe City. Stephen King’s film adaptation of Carrie played on the projector at the bar downstairs while the bands played to their heart's content upstairs. Here’s our account:
Euchre painted a colorful portrait with their lyrics. A tintend moon, mustard, raspberry bushes, green grass, turning blue, etc. The slow groan of a bending whammy chord also stuck out in the mix. The leads black Epiphone Les Paul had a red die replacing one of the tone knobs with the number three facing out, a killer look. They just recorded a bunch of new songs and were trying some of them out, as well as some even newer ones.
Ladybeetle was a fully formed five piece with spaced out keys, a guitar playing bass, piercing lead lines and short storms of feedback. They ranged from pensive mid tempo arpeggios to loud bouncy riffage. Our favorite song of the set was Bitch. The leads voice was a line drive laser that broke into an airy falsetto when it hit the stratosphere. Our ears did a double take every time.
Screenager is a funny name, because their music often captured the carefree bliss that your teens are so easily able to swim in, at least for us. You don’t know what you don’t know, and sometimes that’s a good thing. What we did know is that something about the optimism of the lyrical melodies, the dramatic buildups, and sudden splashing of sound brought us back to our own screenage days. Feeling like the world was ours, barely knowing a thing of what the world was about.
The night's bill must have been a tight knit group because two of Babe City’s five band members had played earlier in the night in the other bands. Their lead was wearing cowboy boots, so it was only fitting that we saw the beer bottle guitar slide in action for the very first time during their set. It was incredible, and three quarters full. Their sound was kind of an amalgamation of the rest of the bands on the bill, pushed to the max. This made sense, considering the shared band members.
A lot of talent graced The Broadway’s stage. Where were you? For the price of half a burrito you could have seen it yourself. Connect with Euchre, Ladybeetle, Screenager, and Babe City so you can catch their next show. Rrrock on, Rrrat pack, see you around.
