Fcukers

In December we caught one of LCD Soundsystem's residency shows at NYC’s Knockdown Center. When we crawled in the venue though, Fcukers was in the middle of their opening set and absolutely knocked us down flat on our tails with it. We knew we had to get another taste so last night we crawled and clawed to Brooklyn’s Warsaw for a Fcukers headlining show, with support from Voyeur and Ivan Berko. Here’s our account of the night:

Ivan Berko began the evening with the THUNK THUNK THUNK THUNK of a heart rattling four on the floor beat. This sludgy house rhythm was in no hurry at around 112BPM. We know this because we got curious and tapped it out on our metronome app. The Warsaw stage looks like an ornate picture frame with gilded accents and designs along the edges, giving the beats a regal flair. An acid baseline snaked through the air and breakbeats tilted the tempo faster as the crowd warmed up.

Voyeur was frantic, noisy, and sharp. There was always tension in their music. Sometimes it was an unpredictable beat, sometimes a snarling riff, sometimes a sudden scream. At one point one of the guitarists unscrewed their whammy bar and was scraping and grating their strings with it, something we’ve never seen or even conceived of before. Our favorite song of the set was one of their most recent releases Eyes Full of Tears.

After an agonizing drawn out wait of a changeover, Fcukers appeared on stage at exactly 10:00PM. A long foreplay before a good fcuking, we suppose. But we cannot emphasize enough how much it was worth the wait. A nonstop dance party ensued, Warsaw's old wooden floorboards bent as we bounced, turning the ground into a trampoline. Hundreds of hands perpetually flailed through the air. The room got hot, some cooks couldn’t handle the heat and left the kitchen. The true groovers remained. It was over in a flash of dance and when the lights came on it was clear to see that everyone within 100 feet of the stage was glistening and dripping with sweat.

It was all over too fcuking soon. Sometimes lightning gets caught in a bottle but it still happens in the blink of an eye. If you missed the show then connect with Ivan Berko, Voyeur, and Fcukers. Who knows, maybe lightning does strike twice. Rrrock On, Rrrat Pack, see you around.
