The Dutch Kills

It’s been too long, Rrrat Pack. Too long since we’ve published a show review. Too long since we’ve swam in the good company of Alphaville Brooklyn, and too long since the music of New York City’s finest bands flipped our spirits inside out. Last evening's late night double header of Nautics and The Dutch Kills reminded us just how much we’d been missing. Being In the middle of Pride Weekend there was a palpable electricity in the air throughout the whole night, exuberance was cranked all the way to 11. It was such a party we almost forgot to take notes, here’s our recollection:

Nautics played perfect summer solstice music. What does that mean? It means the vibe was right. They had the kind of bouncy energy that reminded us of early Arctic Monkeys, like Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not early, except put Mark Foster on the mic instead of Alex Turner. The room was packed and people were jumping. There had been an early show but this late show was free so all types of zoo animals were in the crowd singing, dancing, heckling, having the time of their lives.

The Dutch Kills were celebrating Pride as well as the release of their music video for their 2024 single Ew!. They played a bunch of new material, one number being a song called Molly Screams which hit like an ice bath to the brain because holy shit can their lead scream. And holy shit can their band play. At one point they played another new song that called for barking. People were feeling feral and all too happily obliged. Don’t believe a crowd full of people barking like rabid dogs? It’s on record, check the tape.

Like we already said, people came out in full force to party, and a party it was. uCarly kept it going on the decks after all the bands were through as fog filled the showroom. Summer’s in full swing and last night's crowd of swinging bodies held nothing back. If you missed it make sure to connect with Nautics, The Dutch Kills, and uCarly and come to the next show. Rrrock on, Rrrat pack, see you around!
