Foreign Air

Picture a rat on a Citibike, flying crosstown in the pouring rain. That was us last night from West 4th St. Station to Nightclub 101 at Avenue A. We were in a rush because we read the showtimes wrong on our ticket to the Wes Parker/Foreign Air show and were running late. We arrived with our fur soaking wet, reeking of sweet summer garbage. Here’s what we saw:

Just two steps in the front door, we looked around the bar while showing the bouncer our ID and shaking the rain off. It was busy, and not in a good way because at the back of the bar the double doors of the show room kept swinging from people streaming out of it. Then Wes Parker himself walked by, getting a few congratulatory “Great show!”‘s. We missed his whole set. We met a fan who got the setlist from the performance and she eagerly showed it to us. That’s as close as we got to the music. Sucks to suck, maybe next time.

Foreign Air graced the stage as a breath of fresh air. They opened with the song Such That I May Glow, the title track off their new record coming out TOMORROW. The North Carolina duo crafted a stadium sized sound. Synthternative, alt-dance, chill wave adjacent, whatever you call it. With kaleidoscopic stage lights and thumping beats, they put on a dance party showcase. They’re excited for their new album, the first since 2022’s Hello Sunshine, check it out when the clock strikes midnight.

We were going to blame our lateness on the rain, but really have no one to blame but ourselves. We’ll just have to catch Wes Parker somewhere else and Foreign Air made the ticket worthwhile by themselves. We’ve been visiting The Pyramid Club Nightclub 101 frequently this summer, initially as skeptics of its makeover and rebrand, but we keep coming back. Where’s the next gig you’ll be at? Maybe we’ll see you there. Rrrock On, Rrrat Pack, see you around.
